Set in the heart of the Peak District national park, Alstonefield is a delightful, small village located just 5 minutes (yet a million miles) from the main A515 linking Ashbourne to Buxton.

The Hermitage

Self Catering Holiday Cottage in the Peak District

Alstonefield sits high up between the Tissington Trail and the Manifold Way, both excellent public paths for ramblers and cyclists alike. From the church, it is approximately half a mile down a country lane to Milldale and the start of the beautiful Dovedale valley.

Our property is Grade II listed and was originally the Black Lion public house. In 1782 it, along with the adjoining properties, became the Alstonefield Poor Law Union Workhouse. In later years it has also served as a variety of different shops, including one from which the locals could purchase fish and chips.

Now called The Hermitage, it was recently renovated to a very high standard by the Griffin family of whom Michael is a master craftsman with business premises in the village. The property is still “chock a block” with beams and original features, including a restored range in the kitchen; absolutely loads of character.
